Principal’s Report

WAYNE KENNEDY

Congratulations, on successfully navigating Semester 1.

We have had a productive conclusion to Term 2, with students diligently finalising their assessment submissions and the Teaching Team synthesising academic data and information to produce the Semester 1 Reports.

The Semester 1 Reports will be emailed on Tuesday 30th June 2021. Parent/Teacher interviews are scheduled for Week 3 of Term 3 (3rd & 4th August 2021), for those students that have been requested by subject teachers to attend. Booking information will be forwarded prior to Term 3 commencement.

Senior Education and Training (SET) Planning

I would like to thank all our Year 10 parents and students for attending the individualised SET planning meetings held in the concluding weeks of the term. The SET plans were hosted by Mr Freudigmann and Mrs Iliffe to discuss education, training, and career options for the Senior School.

The meetings provided opportunity to coordinate pathway options and to ensure courses offered in the Senior School, meet the abilities, interests, and ambitions of our students.

From the SET plan meetings, all but two of our Year 10 cohort (who have selected TAFE options) will be continuing their studies at PBC in 2022. With additional student numbers, opportunity for additional subjects to be incorporated within the Senior School’s academic program are being investigated and discussed.

A special thank you to Mr Freudigmann and Mrs Iliffe for the work undertaken to secure 10 of our Year 10 students into certificate training courses this semester, and for planning for the 2021 Work Experience program that will commence in Week 2 of Term 3 (26th – 30th July 2021).

Commemorative Artwork for Wendy Machin

On Friday 18th June, the College held a special commemorative assembly for teacher, colleague, and friend Wendy Machin.

The arrangement for a commemorative artwork was initiated by retired PBC Home Economics/Hospitality teacher Mrs Heather May in the early weeks of Term 1. Since this time, Heather had been diligently creating an extremely fitting mosaic artwork to honour the commitment and dedication that Wendy consistently applied to teaching and the College.

The commemorative assembly was attended by Wendy’s family and friends, with Wendy’s soulmate Greg Barber presenting a moving and memorable speech. Students Daniella Z and Jack G shared some beautiful words as did Heather. It was a lovely assembly for a lovely woman.

Term 3

The preparations for Term 3, particularly the changes to class lists within the Year 2 and Year 7 cohorts has progressed well in previous weeks.

Thank you, parents, and the Teaching Team, for the timely discussions that have taken place, to ensure that not only academic goals, but social objectives have been conveyed, with the individual needs of the students remaining the priority. The reduced class numbers will be supportive to the academic development of the Year 2 and Year 7 students in Semester 2.

The new master timetable for Term 3 has been finalised, and classroom moves will also be finalised within the first week of the holidays.

Diane Dutrow

At the conclusion of today, iconic PBC figure Diane Dutrow (after fifteen years of service) will be closing a personal chapter and embarking on new pursuits.

Diane has been an exceptional administrator, with her knowledge base of all things Peregian Beach College second to none. Many of the successes we’ve enjoyed as a College, have been the result of Diane’s conscientious, industrious, meticulous, attentiveness and kindness being undertaken behind the scenes.

It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have worked alongside Diane. On behalf of the College Board, Teaching Team, parents, and students, I would like to acknowledge and convey our appreciation and sincerest thanks for all that Diane has done for the College and to wish her all the best in future endeavours.

I wish all our PBC families a wonderful mid-year break and I look forward to welcoming students back refreshed and well rested for the commencement of Term 3 on Tuesday 20th July (The Teaching Team will be on campus for Professional Development on 19th July).

Prep Explorers

This term the Prep Explorers have been learning about living things. To complete our topic the children made dioramas of a habitat for their favourite creature. The children excitedly used their crafting skills to create beautiful homes that provided their animals everything they needed to survive.

The look of pride in our Preppies faces says it all!

Year 4

RACHEL PRESTON

Science and History

Year 4 had the opportunity to visit the ‘Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve’ in Maleny to support their learning in Science and History.

Students were able to explore the Rainforest Discovery Centre and sketch the Glass House Mountains from the breathtaking viewing deck but the highlight of the day was spotting the elusive Pademelon!

Year 8D
