The Premier’s welcomed announcement,
with respect to the easing of restrictions from 4pm Friday 20th August, has enabled the College to go ahead with a number of scheduled activities and events with minimal modification.

CBCA Book Week
On Wednesday 25th August the College was able to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of The Children’s Book Council of Australia’s- Book Week. With the easing of restrictions, our Book Week Parade went ahead outdoors, allowing parents to attend the event. In the weeks leading up to the Book Week Parade, students had been read or had viewed the entire range of short-listed texts (within library lessons) that were vying for the prestigious title of Book of the Year. The theme this year was Old World, New World and Other World. The students were also treated to theme-based installation within the Kelly library that highlighted the importance of book reading. I would like to congratulate Miss Tania (Librarian) for her ability to teleport students into Old World’s, New World’s, and Other World’s thanks to her ‘Narnia’ wardrobe. In the lead up to Book Week students created inspirational artworks, were involved in a number of activities and competitions. The following students received prizes for their Book Week submissions:

We were very fortunate to have experienced the perfect, end of winter day, that only the Sunshine Coast can provide. Thank you to all Prep – Year 6 students (and parents) for your creativity and ingenuity in presenting an amazing diversity of book characters for the parade. Thank you also for making the time to attend the presentation. I hope you all experienced as many giggles as I from Mr Dupuy’s quality MC roll.
Year 10 Parent Information Evening
The scheduled Parent Information Evening for our current Year 10 students transitioning into Year 11 in 2022 was successfully undertaken via the Teams platform on Tuesday the 17th of August at 5:30pm – 6:30pm.
The event was well attended by our Year 10 families, all of which benefited from the comprehensive information conveyed by Mr Freudigmann and the Senior Teaching Team. Subject selection forms are to be forwarded to Mr Freudigmann by Wednesday the 8th of September.
Parent / Teacher Interviews
The majority of Parent/Teacher interviews requested by the Teaching Team, in association with the Semester 1 Reports, have been successfully conducted via video conference using the Microsoft Teams platform, or by telephone call.
If any additional interviews are required, parents are most welcome to email teachers directly to arrange an appropriate appointment time.
Life Education remains scheduled for Week 7 (Tuesday 31st August to Friday 3rd September 2021)
New Playgrounds
The installation of new playground equipment within the Junior Playground and a Middle School fitness station, remains on track for early September. PBC ground staff have commenced the removal of some of the existing equipment in preparation.
I was fortunate enough to have the Year 1 class attend my office to convey their individualised playground concepts – may I just say, if you are ever thinking of designing a playground, look no further, Year 1 have definitely got all the answers!
Sporting Academy Open Day – Friday 3rd September 2021
On Friday 3 September, the College will be conducting a Sporting Academy Open Day.
Key Academic and Coaching staff (including Sports Science team) will be available throughout the day to convey specific information on all aspects of the Sporting Academy program.
Football (Soccer), Dance and Tennis will be showcased from approximately 10:30am to 12:30pm. The September 3rd date is traditionally in place of the Ministerial pupil free day – previously held in October – PBC had our Pupil Free day at the commencement of the term.
Noosa Show Day – Friday 10th September 2021.
The College will be closed for the Noosa Show Day.
Scholastic Book Orders
Scholastic Book Club Issue 4 for Kindy to Year 6 is now open for orders.
Parents please order online at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP app (orders cannot be paid through PBC office).
If your child has not received a catalogue, please view the online version.
Your order will be electronically linked to the rest of our school’s order. You do not need to complete the order form.
ISQ 2021 What Parents Want Survey
Parent views are important to us.
Your experience of choosing our school is insightful. Peregian Beach College is interested to learn what was important to you and your family before and during your decision-making process, why you chose to send your child to an independent school, and why you felt Peregian Beach College was different from the other schools you may have considered.
You are invited to complete The What Parents Want – an Independent Schools Queensland Survey. It is a longitudinal study that tracks multiple aspects of parents’ decision-making, and the anonymous data can provide our school with insights to better understand and support prospective and new families in our community.
If you are a parent of a Prep, Year 7 and/or new student, we’d like to ask you to complete this valuable survey (approx., 15-20 minutes). Other parents are also welcome to complete the survey.
School Musical 2021 Update
What a crazy year! I know Covid lockdowns and restrictions are affecting everyone at home and at school, and they have now had a knock-on effect to our school musical.
The production date has now been postponed due to the three weeks of interrupted rehearsals and the fact that we currently cannot hold an audience here at the College.
If restrictions are lifted, the new proposed performance date for the College production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast Jr” is Wednesday the 3rd of November (Week 5, Term 4).
Hopefully by now every family has received their costume letter from their class teacher or one of the production team that outlines what is required for your character in the musical. If you haven’t, please contact your class teacher.

Prep J & Year 5
JULIA BLAHUTA & HEATH CAHALAN
Prep and Year 5 class collaborating for a maths lesson!
Working in small groups, the Preps and Year 5s worked together to create recycled paper aeroplanes. The students launched their aeroplanes, then measured how far the aeroplanes flew using informal measurement tools.
The Preps were very excited to learn from the ‘big kids’ and the Year 5s did a fantastic job developing key leadership qualities.

Speed Racers!
During Science last week, Year 4 students were investigating how to use thrust force to alter the speed of a model balloon car.
Everyone had lots of fun testing out their predictions and we were surprised by some of the outcomes!
Year 5
HEATH CAHALAN
Throwback – End of Term 2, Australian Gold Rush.
Year 5 turned back the clock and arrived as characters from the Australian gold fields (1850s).
In a cross curricular effort (Food Technology and History), students also got to cook damper on a campfire oven.
Australian Democracy never tasted so good.

SAVANNAH DAVIS
Does practice make perfect?
Students worked on a quick, hands-on, fun maths investigation based on the skill of coin catching.
The Investigation integrates well with science, as it demonstrates the importance of fair testing and the procedures that need to be followed for a valid experiment to be carried out. Students had great fun tossing, losing and catching coins.
Year 6 students displayed the results on line graphs and wrote statements of probability about what might happen with further practice.
