Principal’s Report
WAYNE KENNEDY
We have had ‘a hit the ground running’ welcome to Term 4,
and it looks like there will be no slowing down. The first week for our Year 12 students, began with a ‘Mock Block’ to ensure that all the final preparations for the QCAA External Examinations are in good order. The ‘Mock Block’ proved a valuable initiative, with the next two weeks earmarked for the fine tuning and consolidating of subject matter and further skill development.
This Issue
The actual QCAA External Examinations is scheduled from Friday 22nd of October (Week 3) through to Thursday 12th November (Week 6). The Year 12 Examinations will take place in the OSHC classroom in Building 2, so please adhere to the Examination In Progress signage.
Our Year 11 students will have their examinations blocks in Week 4 & 7. Information on the Year 11 examination will be distributed by Mr Freudgmann this week. Term 4 assessment calendars with be distributed on Friday 15th October.
Playground Equipment
It was extremely pleasing to witness our Junior School students finding new physical challenges in innovative and creative ways, with the newly installed Junior School playground equipment. On behalf of the College Board, Leadership and Teaching team and most importantly the students, I would like to sincerely thank David Reed & family for both their generous financial contribution and installation of the Junior School playground and the Secondary fitness station. I would also like to acknowledge the College Board, Parent Information & Project Support (PIPS) committee, and OHSC for their financial contributions.
The new play and fitness equipment is a welcomed inclusion and will enhance the physical wellbeing of all our students. (We have had delays in the delivery of the appropriate standard soft fall for the Secondary fitness station, however we hope to have this rectified in coming weeks). There are three playground pods that will also be installed in the quadrangle this weekend.
Learn to swim program
The Junior School Learn to Swim program has successfully commenced this week, with Samantha Mann (Junior School HPE teacher) extremely pleased with the keenness of the students to engage with the program, even with a few sun-showers making it interesting.
It is extremely pleasing to witness the students develop their confidence and skills in the water. Thank you to Liz Melinz and other parent helpers that are supporting the learn to swim program.
End of Year Reports
The Leadership and Teaching team have in the initial weeks been working diligently to make modifications to our End of Year Report templates. The College has taken on board the recommendations of our parents and have implemented and altered our reporting to incorporate attendance as a percentage and to provide information which shows student achievement in all subjects compared to those of the other pupils in the same year group (this has always been available on request).
Additional report changes include now only having core subjects (English, Mathematics, Science, HASS – Humanities and Social Science) having written focus goal comments, with all other subjects having a Curriculum Statement, Effort, Subject Standards, and Overall Achievement Grade being reported – as specified within the guidelines for Reporting to Parents (Department of Education). Year 11 Reports will encompass Internal Assessment results which will indicate the potential ATAR points attributed.
2022 Timetables
The Leadership team have also been drafting the College’s 2022 Master Timetable and working towards the allocation of Year level classrooms and Teacher allocations.
Mr Freudigmann has gone to considerable lengths to accommodate the academic preferences of our Senior Secondary students and the request of the Senior School Teaching Team to provide the best learning environments structures for the 2022 academic year.
The growth in student numbers in our Senior Secondary has seen the addition of the short course Numeracy and Literacy courses which have commenced this Term.
Book Fair
Fast approaching is our Book Fair. Monday 25 October – Thursday 28 October.
We invite all students and families to the Kelly Library to peruse the book selection – there will be hundreds of books for sale.
We would value your support and welcome any donations of books. Any donations will be inscribed with a dedication in the sleeve.
School Musical
There has also been much excitement and anticipation around our upcoming musical production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Junior, scheduled for Wednesday the 3rd of November at 4pm.
Samantha Ryan and Haylee Freudigmann will be forwarding the schedule for the performance day by weeks end.
The Beauty and the Beast Junior production is now to be performed in the Kelly Library (the College will monitor and be guided by Queensland Health’s directives regarding possible changes in COVID guidelines).
Book Fair
Two weeks until book fair!
The countdown is on! ***Only two weeks*** until we host our Book Fair and you are invited into the Kelly Library which is a cool place to discover hot books!

Opening Times: 8am – 10am & 2.30pm – 3.30pm
This could be a perfect opportunity to pick up a couple early Christmas gifts, stock up your bookcase or buy your child a lovely new picture book/novel./span>
A range of books will be on display if you wish to donate a book to our library. Donated books will be individually inscribed with a dedication with your child/s name on it.
And remember; every purchase you make earns learning resources for our College.

- When signing students in late or signing them out early please ensure to put a reason in the text box for College records.
- Please ensure students are in their correct uniform, we are going to be checking to make sure that the uniform policy guidelines are being followed, this includes correct footwear with formal uniforms.

Prep Explorers
Snakes Everywhere!
The Prep Explorers have been so excited to share their experiences of and knowledge about snakes that we decided to use them as inspiration for our Mathematics.
Each child got to make their own snake and decorate it with an original pattern. Then they used their snakes to explore and learn about measurement.
I just loved watching them work together and am so impressed with their use of mathematical language.

Year 5
HEATH CAHALAN
Geography
This Term in Geography, Year 5 are racing around the world in the Amazing Race. Each week, each team much complete a written and physical task in order to progress. This week students had to complete a series of questions on Oceania, and then build the tallest marshmallow tower using nothing but spaghetti.
In order to receive information about the next destination, students must receive a blue card. Failing to complete work to a high-quality standard, could result in an orange card – or worse a red..

Year 6
MISS DAVIS & MS HEMMINGS
Science: Living Things
In Science this week, students from 6D & 6H conducted field observations of their local area and established pan traps to collect data on living things.
Students explored the environmental features of the local habitat by identifying the range of animals and plants that might be found and discovering evidence of animals’ presence (tracks, trails, nests etc.)
Year 6 students also had to examine their data of animals caught in the trap to interpret whether the colour of the pan trap affected their results.
Sporting Achievements
Congratulations to Nate Matthews
Congratulations to Nate Matthews on his 7th place finish at the under 14 state basketball championship.
Nate (13) has also been selected in the under 16 Sunshine Coast Phoenix representative 2nds side.
Well done Nate and the PBC community looks forward to hearing more about your future triumphs.
