Principal’s Report

As we reach the midpoint of the term, the final opportunities for students to demonstrate their academic knowledge,

understanding and skills is now paramount, as final assessment tasks are undertaken. The Teaching Team are all diligently culminating 2021 academic data, to complete the End of Year Reports. The Year 11 students this week successfully completed a week long examination block and our Year 12 have completed their final QCAA external assessments for English, Physical Education and Music. Next week will see the Year 12 cohort undertaking General Mathematics, Visual Art and Legal Studies. The preparation and application displayed by our Year 12’s has been admirable, and I wish them every success in the remaining external assessments.  Thank you to students and parents for accommodating the request for quiet during dedicated examination times – it is greatly appreciated.

This Issue

College Growth

With the growth in College numbers throughout 2021, and the projected growth in 2022, plans for a new Early Learning Centre (ELC) to be constructed where the existing Art and Music buildings now reside, has been proposed by the College Board. To accommodate the new ELC, the existing Art, Music and canteen buildings will be relocated to the vacant land next to the Science Building. Art classes are earmarked to take place within Building 6, next to Food Technologies in 2022. The fit out of the Building 6 space for Art has commenced. Modification to the iMac lab within the Kelly library will be undertaken in coming weeks to create additional classrooms.  It is envisaged that once the new ELC is completed, the current ELC will provide four additional classrooms for the Junior School. Could I please request that any students transferring to other College’s, please notify administration in coming weeks, to support class allocations and preparations, and to ensure that no additional fees are charged for late notification.

Book Fair

Thank you to all the students and parents that have supported the PBC Book Fair (Monday 25th – 28th October). The generous donations of books to the Kelly library by parents and staff has been appreciated by our Librarian Miss Tania. It is extremely pleasing to witness the pleasure and excitement that continues to be generated when a young person acquires a book that captures their curiosity and interest.

School Musical

As reported in the last Emu Chronicle, the excitement and anticipation around our upcoming musical production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Junior, scheduled for Wednesday the 3rd of November at 4pm is continually building. Samantha Ryan and Haylee Freudigmann have held two full College rehearsals this week, with a full-dress rehearsal still scheduled for early afternoon next Wednesday. The 280 tickets proposed for the production did sell out this week, however due to popular demand, additional seating has been added. The College is mindful that this Primary and Junior Secondary production, will become inaudible, and visibility hindered, if maximum capacity is accommodated. All the main cast have microphones, with good sound quality in rehearsals. There are numerous budding actors all ready to shine next week!

Information Sessions

In Week 6 we will be running two Information Sessions:

Middles School: 4.30 – 5.30pm

Year 8 – 9 Subject Selection and information: 5.30 – 6.30pm

The Middle School information session will enable parents to understand the changes that will take place for their child as they move into any of Years 5-8 in 2022. Mr. Dupuy will go over some housekeeping items and key events before each teacher from the middle school will give a brief summary of the subjects they teach. 

The Year 8 into 9 subject selection and  information session will enable parents to understand the changes that will take place for their child as they move into Year 9 in 2022. Mr Freudigmann will go over key issues to consider when selecting subjects for Year 9.  Each elective teacher from the senior school will give a brief summary of the subjects they teach.

Each session will finish with an opportunity for parents to mingle amongst each other and ask teachers any follow up questions they may have.

  • The email address to use for all correspondence relating to student absences is admin@pbc.qld.edu.au, this email address is accessed by all administration staff. Please add admin@pbc.qld.edu.au to your address books so that our emails to you don’t go to your junk email folder.
    You can also lodge an absence via the form on the website located here.
  • Don’t forget to order canteen through the My School Connect app – orders are to be placed no later than 8.40 am.
  • When signing students in late or signing them out early please ensure to put a reason in the text box for College records.
  • Please ensure students are in their correct uniform, we are going to be checking to make sure that the uniform policy guidelines are being followed, this includes correct footwear with formal uniforms.

Book Fair – Thank You!

I would like to thank those families and teachers whom donated books.  These wonderful additions will have a personalised dedication inside the cover.

Thank you for supporting our first Scholastic Book Fair.  My $1,000 expectation was surpassed quickly, and more than doubled!   It has been such a success with over 150 books being purchased to enjoy.  To see the joy on the students’ faces as the came to the fair was beautiful.  Many students and families returned more than once!

Buddy Class!

This week, the Preps were very excited to show the Year 6 students PBC’s new junior playground. This gave the Preps the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

Time to Explore with Year 4!

Hello to the Peregian Beach College community, from student teacher Jordan Mercer.

I have been warmly welcomed into Year Four by my incredible mentor teacher Rachel Preston and her super students. Together we have had fun embracing new content in Maths with 3D shapes, the graphemes of phonics exploring the spelling of sounds and in Geography where our focus has been sustainability.

It has been a pleasure building relationships with the students and supporting their learning over the past three weeks. They are absolute stars in their own unique and beautiful ways; I have loved their input and passion. I will be savouring our final week of learning together next week.

Treasure Maps – Prep Adventurers!

This week, the Prep Adventurers put on their eye patches and set sail for the playground as they made their very own treasure maps.

In groups, children sketched a ‘bird’s eye view’ map of the playground, then created their own maps with an ‘X’ to mark their hidden treasure. They then set off on a treasure hunt to find the hidden treasure.

The children did a fantastic job communicating in their teams and worked very hard to create their very own beautiful treasure maps.

Our Green Ball and Red Ball primary tennis teams participated in their first competition recently.  Fun was had by all at the Sunshine Coast Regional Tennis Centre at Caloundra.  Coaches were very impressed with how much our Development students have improved since the inception of our Tennis Program.
