Principal’s Report

The 2021 academic year is reaching its conclusion,
with final assessment submissions a priority for our students, and end of year report writing being primacy for our dedicated teaching team. Whilst the College community, dot the i‘s and cross the t’s, to ensure all is accomplished and finalised in good order; the planning and preparations for 2022 is also at the fore.
This Issue
On Wednesday 17th November, our Year 12 students and their families and friends attended the 2021 Graduation dinner. The evening was held in the private dinning room at Coolum Surf Club, which provide a fitting natural backdrop to an organic evening. The Graduation dinner was not only a celebration of academic accomplishment but of also a celebration of friendships established by students, parents, grandparents, and the teaching team over valued years at PBC. Throughout the evening opportunity was provided for students, parents, grandparents, and members of the teaching team to openly share personal narratives; some were humorous, others reminiscent, others heart-felt and full of sincerity. A final parting comment, as we left the building was conveyed “The evening was beautifully PBC.” On, Friday 19th November the College held the Year 12 Graduation and Award Ceremony. Master of Ceremony – Mr Gary Freudigmann providing a memorable and fitting farewell to: Jasmine C, Noah C, Jack G, Tobey G, Isobel G, David G, Alistair M, and Daniella Z. School Captain Jack G, presented an open, honest, and heartfelt speech that resonated similar words in my mind to those stated days before – Jack’s speech was ‘beautifully PBC.’ On behalf of the College, I wish all our Year 12 graduates every success for their future academic pursuits and career aspirations.
Today was the last official school day for our Year 10 and 11 students, with an appropriate farewell gathering held by Mr Freudigmann and the Senior Teaching Team in Period 6 to acknowledge the considerable growth, developments and achievements accomplished throughout 2021. We wish our Year 10 and 11 students a safe and refreshing summer break, and look forward to providing the best academic, social, cultural, and sporting support in their Senior studies in 2022.
2022 Teaching Staff
As reported in the last Emu Chronicle, the very warm and persuasive requests, by students and parents for particular teachers to be allocation in 2022 has continued; with the Leadership Team working to accommodation requests where possible. The Leadership Team and I have been conducting the College’s Teacher Performance and Development Plans over the pass weeks and I am extremely confident in stating that the time allocated by the professional PBC teaching team to the creation of innovative lesson planning, that focusses on the differentiation of the curriculum to meet the individual needs of students is nothing but inspirational. The College has an exceptional teaching team, who are at the forefront of ensuring Peregian Beach College is a unique and forward-thinking educational provider. On Monday 6th December all students will be involved in a transition day (8:40am – 2:55pm). The current timetable will be modified to enable students to be introduced to their 2022 teachers and commence the induction process. The above-mentioned new teaching team members will be available to convey specific subject information and Term 1 academic outlines. Homeroom teachers will convey additional information next week. [Tuesday 7th will revert back to the existing timetable and class teachers].
Mind and Movement
The College Leadership Team has been working with Independent Schools Queensland representative Randal Burrow, and the Self-Improving Schools Committee, to implement a MIND program, earmarked to be undertaken on Tuesday afternoons throughout 2022. The MIND program’s goal is to enhance specific learning needs that cannot be easily met within the classroom. The foundational skills within the MIND afternoon will concentrate predominately on mathematical and literacy skill development. A number of specific projects, intended to enhance and enrich individual student development will be shared with parent and students, once finalised. In addition, to the MIND program, a MOVEMENT program will be implemented on Thursday afternoons.
The MOVEMENT program will enable students access to a specialised sporting, movement and fitness opportunity, that will be put forward and then selected by families for participation. Whilst the MIND and MOVEMENT programs are being undertaken, Sporting Academy students (Dance,Tennis & Football) will be undertaking their training programs. The MIND and MOVEMENT programs and all Elite & Development Sporting Academy programs will all be undertaken on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, therefore ensuring that all academic programs remain accessible to every student. The Enhanced Learning Opportunities program, successfully implemented in past years will be augmented within the MIND and MOVEMENT programs. I aim to provide the specifics of the MIND and MOVEMENT programs within the next Emu Chronicle.

Our lovely staff here at PBC are helping to support The Pyjama Foundation by running a Christmas Toy Drive to support children in Foster Care this Christmas.

Library Books
Overdue library and textbook reminder…..
With Term 4 ending shortly all library books and textbooks must be returned by next week please.
During Prep to Year 6 library lessons this week, students and teachers were notified which books are overdue. Teachers may have already been in touch with some parents about overdue books.
If your child tells you they have an overdue book please help them look for it and have it returned to either admin or the library. Our preference would be not to invoice parents for a book that could be returned prior to the end of the year. I appreciate your help with keeping our library fully stocked.

You can also lodge an absence via the form on the website located here. - Don’t forget to order canteen through the My School Connect app – orders are to be placed no later than 9 am, this app will also be used for musical ticket sales later in the year.
- When signing students in late or signing them out early please ensure to put a reason in the text box for College records.
- Please ensure students are in their correct uniform, we are going to be checking to make sure that the uniform policy guidelines are being followed, this includes correct footwear with formal uniforms.

Math Mayhem!
Middle School students were treated to a few hours of hands-on problem-solving activities when ‘World of Maths’ visited the college last Thursday. In small groups, they were challenged to solve a range of real-world problems that drew on the concepts they’d been taught in the classroom over many years. It was great to see the students working together and communicating positively with each other to complete the tasks. It was also pleasing to receive such positive feedback from our instructor, Miss Megan, who commented on how well-behaved, respectful and engaging the students were.
Music 2021!
SAMANTHA RYAN
Wow, what a year! The PBC Music Department has had an amazing 2021. In the classroom this year, students have been building their musicianship through learning how to compose digital and notated music, listen to and analyse sounds and pieces, and perform with different year levels learning recorders, ukuleles, keyboards, guitars and voice. Congratulations to our Year 12 music students who graduated in week 7 leaving a large hole in the senior music class and big shoes to fill for our upcoming year 11’s. From Prep to Year 10, students have produced high quality music work and compositions that showed their unique talents and passion for their favourite genres. Some of the 7’s and Preps finished up this term with a combined music class that allowed them to work together through a series of music stations. They performed rhythms, learnt about music instruments, and even played musical snakes and ladders!
The highlight of the year was definitely our college musical ‘Beauty and the Beast Jr’. All students had an amazing time performing to a sell-out crowd and parents had nothing but positive feedback about the performance.
I’m so proud of every student and how hard they have all worked. Thank you to everyone who helped make 2021 a success, I’m really looking forward to continuing our music journey in 2022.

This week, the Preps showed Year 6 students some Yoga stances. All students discovered how to train the body and mind to relax. This yoga session also helped students understand proper breathing techniques, which helps activate our mind and reduce stress.

Over the holidays is a wonderful time to visit the galleries to view our students’ artworks in the tenth Asian Pacific Triennial (APT10). The APT10 will be open for viewing from Saturday the 4th of December 2021 till 25th April 2022

Year 5
Digital Technology: Shark Tank!

“Students explain how social, ethical, technical and/or sustainability considerations influence the design of solutions to meet a range of present and future needs”.
Year 5 achieved this curriculum goal by researching an issue, designing a solution and then pitching their idea to a bunch of hungry investors (Sharks).
We had yoga mats made from recycled wetsuits, bamboo water bottles and pet toys, petrol made from plastic and up-cycled kids toys turned pot plants. Year 5 went above and beyond in their Shark Tank pitches, with all sharks very pleased with their new investments.

Waste Excursion
RACHEL PRESTON
Last Friday Year 4 students embarked on an excursion to the ‘Waste 2 Resource Education Centre’ in Bli Bli. We had a great time exploring how waste is managed and how we can use waste minimisation techniques like reduce, reuse and recycle to help reduce waste sent to landfill. CCTV cameras allowed us to delve into the Materials Recovery Facility and the machines and workers who sort our recycling for reprocessing. Finally, we all hopped back on board our school bus to take a ‘behind the scenes’ tour to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the landfill and the Resource Recovery Centre. A great morning was had by all!

Problem Solving Tasks: Maths
This week in Maths, five students were given the opportunity to teach and guide students through a range of problem solving tasks. The activities allowed all students to make decisions and collaboratively explore the problem.

Abbie and Shantal were part of the Sunshine Coast School Representative Futsal Team that won the Under 13/14 state Futsal Competition. They were wonderful ambassadors for Peregian Beach College.
