Principal’s Report
SHANE DUPUY

A day to remember
Last Tuesday we not only welcomed back our existing students, but also 67 new students and their families into our college community. There was a mix of excitement and an equal amount of nervousness as students found their way to their new classrooms, with their new teachers and classmates. Chatting to parents, there was an equal measure of anxiety and relief. Some pleased to get the kids back to a regular routine which schooling provides whilst others were ruing the day due to the adjustment back to morning routines of preparing lunchboxes, uniforms, schoolbags and being on time. Whatever the case, the day went brilliantly, and the teachers were especially eager to welcome the students back on campus.
Whilst it was an extremely successful day across the board, surely the gold star must go to our new Preps. Led by the amazing Miss P, by 8:40am, all were seated at their desks working diligently without a tear or parent in sight. This fantastic outcome could not have been possible if not for the hard work of a many stakeholders. Aside from Miss P, thanks must also go to Miss Brooke for her supportive and caring nature to welcome the students and parents, and to Mrs Kerin, who instigated the Little Emus playgroup last year. This orientation program allowed the students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings, classmates and teachers which paid dividends come day one. The only negative from the day was the roving reporters from Noosa Today newspaper who had hoped to capture some content highlighting first day jitters, apprehensive students and teary parents.
New Staff
Along with the new students, we would also like to welcome several new staff to PBC. All bring with them a host skills and years of experience to further enhance the holistic development of PBC. If you get the opportunity, please make the following new staff members welcome:
Nigel McDuff – Secondary Coordinator
Troy Witton – Digital Technologies Teacher
Virginia Schlotterbach – Japanese Teacher
Nate Morris – Learning Coach
Max Conway – Learning Coach
Tina Lyall – Learning Coach
Olivia Towns – Learning Coach
Kalina Zerk – Learning Coach
Helen Smith – Canteen Coordinator
Phillipa Gradwell – Canteen Officer
We will RISE
Whilst a new school year allows for the resetting of personal goals, it also allows for the consolidation of processes and programs. With minimal changes to the year levels and subjects they taught last year; teaching staff can refine teaching programs. In the past couple of years, there have been several new programs introduced. Whether it be our Initialit literacy program, Oxford Maths, Learning Through Doing or utilising the Daymap LMS, all staff are more adept at utilising these programs to enhance the overall learning program for your child. The new 2-week timetable structure and comprehensive Mind and Movement program will assist the holistic development of your child. The addition of extra Learning Coaches, under the expert guidance of Mrs. Janine Olsen, will ensure as much support as possible can be given to our learners. The expectation is that across the board, our students are given all the necessary skills to achieve their best.
Expectations
As outlined in previous correspondence, it is the expectation that all students adhere to the college Uniform and Code of Conduct policies. Upon their return last week, it was made very clear to all students what is expected of them regarding jewellery, hairstyles, and uniform. If parents have any concerns, as always, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher in the first instance.
Finally, as outlined in the enrolment contract, it is expected that all students will participate in all college activities, including school camps. Mrs. Kerryn McDuff, our Co-Curriculum Coordinator, along with Daily Operations Officer, Mrs. Kate Hansell, have worked tirelessly to develop an exciting and engaging camp program for most year levels. These will occur throughout the year, with the Y7 students kicking it off in week 4. There will be plenty of information forthcoming as your child’s class prepares for their camp. Please reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher or Coordinator should you have any queries or concerns. I look forward to visiting some sites and seeing our students enjoying the company of their friends whilst undertaking activities that will no doubt build confidence and comradery amongst the cohorts. Bring it on!

ALEC WAREING

As we begin this new chapter at Peregian Beach College, I extend a warm welcome to all our returning families and those joining us for the first time. Our P-12 community is a unique and dynamic environment where students are nurtured, challenged, and inspired to grow as confident learners and compassionate individuals.
Our school values — reflective practice, inclusivity, service of others, and excellence — guide everything we do. These principles remind us that achieving success is not a solitary journey, but a collective effort built on collaboration, respect, and shared purpose.
In 2025, we encourage families, staff, and students to work together closely, forming strong partnerships that support every learner to thrive. When we communicate openly, set shared goals, and foster a supportive environment, we create the conditions for growth and success. Families play an essential role in this process, reinforcing learning at home, celebrating achievements, and encouraging perseverance.
This year presents new opportunities for all of us to reflect, grow, and contribute meaningfully to our school community. Whether through classroom engagement, leadership opportunities, or service initiatives, we aim to empower every student to achieve their best.
As we embark on this journey together, I invite everyone to embrace this year with a sense of purpose and optimism. With dedication, teamwork, and commitment to our shared values, 2025 is set to be a fantastic year for PBC.
Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to working together and celebrating the successes we will undoubtedly achieve.
Primary School Coordinator Report
NICOLA KERIN

What a wonderful start to the year we have had in the primary school! It has been so encouraging to walk into classrooms from Prep right through to Year 6 and see happy, engaged, respectful learners.
For those of you who don’t know me, I would like to introduce myself and tell you a bit about my role this year as the Primary School Coordinator. This role will replace the Prep – Year 2, Year 3 and 4, and Year 5 and 6 Coordinator roles which were last year held by myself, Miss Savannah Davis and Mrs Amber Garratt.
The Primary School Coordinator role this year is a full-time role, 5 days a week, so I will be able to fully immerse myself in supporting the academic and wellbeing needs of all students across Prep to Year 6. I will also be supporting our primary teaching team, as well as parents and families. I have really enjoyed the first 2 weeks in my new role, being able to get into classrooms and extending my relationships with students and teachers, as well as getting to know many families across the entire primary sector of the college.
Our teachers have thoroughly prepared their classrooms and teaching programs to ‘hit the ground running’ so to speak and our students have responded wonderfully to many start of the year activities and lessons to begin a new year of learning. In classes, teachers have established routines and expectations which will lead to a smooth and successful year where students can focus on learning goals and creating opportunities for success in many areas. At Peregian Beach College we expect our students to demonstrate safe, respectful, learning behaviours which I have seen evidence of across all P-6 classes, both in the classroom and on the playground. Well done to all the students who have started the year so positively.
I look forward to continuing this great start to the year, and working further with students, families, and staff. If you ever need to contact me during the year, please contact me via email, and I will do my best to support you and your child. I am excited for the year ahead, supporting each child to grow and thrive as a unique individual.
Friendly reminder about our upcoming “Pop Up Book Fair”, Monday 10th February 7:45 am – 3:30 pm, hope to see you there.
Secondary School Coordinator Report
NIGEL MCDUFF

New Role
Welcome back to the school year for 2025.
I am very excited to be in the Leadership Team at the College in the new role of Secondary School Coordinator. My entire life has been in schools, and I have come from a background as a Teacher, Head of Faculty, Head of Sport, Head of Operations, Human Resources, and Campus Administrator. My workplaces have included Education Queensland Schools, Catholic Schools, Anglican Schools, Lutheran Schools and Independent Schools across Queensland and even a recent stint in Tasmania.
My role at PBC is centred around the relationships between the students, the families, and the College itself. With the oversight of all students in Years 7-12, I hope to foster strong communication pathways and develop points of difference within our school culture, whilst maintaining the delivery of a quality education.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know all the College families in the coming weeks and encourage students and parents to catch up and introduce yourselves.
Uniforms
Now that the school year is back in full swing, can I remind all students and parents of the expectation regarding school uniforms. The full uniform policy can be found on the College website, however I would like to highlight a few key items for Year 7-12 students:
- Formal Uniform vs Sports Uniform
- Students can wear sports uniform on days they have timetabled PE lessons. Students can wear sports uniform on Thursdays for Movement lessons.
- On all other days, the students are to wear Formal Uniform with black leather shoes.
- Jewellery – Only a wristwatch and one pair of earrings (plain studs or sleepers) is permitted. No necklaces allowed.
- Socks – Students can wear plain white socks (no branding visible) or navy blue socks with either the formal or sports uniforms.
- Hats – A school hat is compulsory. Hats must be worn at all times when outside of classrooms i.e.before school, breaks, outdoor lessons, etc.
Student Services
This year PBC is excited to partner with The Resilience Project (TRP) as part of our commitment to promoting the wellbeing of our secondary students. All students in years 7 to 12 will participate each Tuesday in an engaging lesson to open up conversations about wellbeing and learn positive mental health strategies. We invite parents to join us on this journey by clicking the links below to find out more about TRP.

Inclusion
Dear Parents and Families,
For those I haven’t yet had the pleasure of meeting, my name is Janine Olsen, and I lead the College’s inclusive practices. In this role, I support all learners in accessing the resources and strategies they need to succeed. I also work closely with College leadership as a member of the Student Services Team, focusing on support, intervention, enrichment, and extension for students.
I coordinate learning coaching, small group interventions, and enrichment programs across the College, and will keep you informed if your child is selected to participate in any of these programs. At PBC, we strive to ensure every learner can grow and thrive in their educational journey.
Another key part of my role is coordinating the Teacher Assistants and Learning Coaches across P-12. These staff work alongside teachers to improve student learning outcomes.
Some students require Personalised Plans to clarify their support needs at school. I will be in touch if your child needs a plan or if their existing plan requires a review. Planning meetings are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your child’s progress and ensure their learning plan aligns with their needs and development.
If you ever need to get in touch with me throughout the year, please feel free to email me directly. I look forward to working with you to help your child thrive in 2025!
Warm regards,
Janine Olsen

Prep 2025
Great start to 2025!
Our PBC youngest learners had a wonderful start to the year, settling into their new school routine beautifully. A highlight of their first week was taking a tour of the school grounds trying to find ‘The Green Sheep’. After looking high and low and following clues by scanning QR codes, it turned out the green sheep was taking a cheeky nap in Mr Dupuy’s office!
Well done, Prep!
