Principal’s Report

SHANE DUPUY

When I was teaching, I used to always look forward to Term 3, as this was the term that didn’t require reports, or first term, when everything seems to go a million miles an hour with new students, classrooms, programs and routines to get used to. By Term 3, students were usually well-settled, familiar with their teachers and peers, had been given enough reminders about behavioural and uniform expectations for them to comply, and we could all appreciate the end of year wasn’t too far away. Perhaps the couple of years away from the classroom has changed my perspective? This past 10 weeks has seemingly been as frenetic as ever. Upon reflection, there’s good reason. This term has been filled with a range of events, excursions, incursions and competitions that has kept all and sundry on their toes. With the sole focus of enhancing our students learning experiences, the efforts of our hard-working teachers and support services team need to be celebrated.

This term students have participated in the following:

  • Y2-4 camp to Maranatha
  • Y6 camp to Boulder Creek
  • Y5 excursion to Urban Extreme in Brisbane
  • Y8-12 Wellbeing Day
  • Senior Careers Expo
  • FUSE Cup
  • Biology excursion
  • Pyjama Day
  • Josei Gakuen student immersion
  • Little Emus playgroup
  • Ninja Jungle
  • ADF workshop
  • World of Maths incursion
  • Junior Talent Show
  • Futsal Championship
  • Basketball Competition
  • Track and Field
  • Queensland Oztag
  • Queensland Cricket
  • AFL Queensland
  • Aquatic Practices Fishing Charter

When you consider these events occurred in addition to our Mind and Movement program, it is clear to see the opportunities PBC students are provided to support the realisation of their full academic, social, emotional, cultural, sporting and community potential.

Whilst Term 4 promises to be much the same, especially given the upcoming PBC Fete, exams, graduation and awards ceremonies, I am confident that with the same amount of passion, collegiality, community spirit and engagement, our community will be able to celebrate a wonderful years’ work.

College Coordinator Report

ALEC WAREING

Dear Peregian Beach College Community,

As we come to the close of Term 3, we reflect on the achievements and growth of our students and staff. It has been another remarkable term filled with exciting activities, inspiring learning experiences, and a strong sense of community.

Our students have continued to impress with their dedication and enthusiasm. I am particularly proud of the Open Boys’ Basketball team’s recent victory in the Sunshine Coast Schools competition, the outstanding efforts of our students in the Japanese Speech Contest, and the bravery of all our primary school students who participated in the inaugural PBC Talent Show. These events truly showcased the exceptional abilities of our students. Thank you to the parents, staff, and volunteers who made these events possible. Your support and involvement are greatly appreciated.

As we approach the break, we encourage all students to take time to relax and recharge. Term 4 promises to be just as dynamic, with exciting projects, excursions, and preparations for the end-of-year celebrations. Stay tuned for more updates and important information as we continue to work together to support our students’ growth and success.

Grade 8 to Grade 12 Student Wellbeing Day – a day of Reflection, Inclusivity and Engagement

A day of inclusivity, reflective practice, comradery and fun!

Our third Secondary Wellbeing Day, held on Friday 6th September, was everything we hoped it would be – an extremely valuable and exciting day for all involved. The highlight of the event was a full-day immersive experience with the world-renowned motivational speaker Lorin Nicholson, whose insights left a lasting impact on students. The PBC-inspired, Amazing race, generated incredible excitement, competition, and collaboration, with students enthusiastically tackling trivia, physical, and mental challenges. The energy was contagious, and the camaraderie that developed throughout the day truly embodied the PBC spirit. The great prizes were just the icing on the cake. The day successfully fostered a sense of belonging and inclusivity among our cohort while building resilience and strengthening friendships. It was a meaningful break from the classroom, filled with fun, collegiality, and an opportunity for students to explore the world together. These Wellbeing Days continue to be an essential part of our Pastoral Curriculum, and this one exceeded our expectations by reinforcing the importance of compassion, connection and that school is not just a place for “book” learning! A HUGE shout out to the staff who contributed to making this a wonderful day for our students – Ms Harris, Mr van Meurs, Mr Dupuy, Ms Korac, Mrs Dalgliesh, Ms Macnicol, Mr Saunderson, Mr Puttergill, Ms Fernandes, Ms Lovegrove, Mr Evans, Mr Rogers, Ms Willers, Mrs Wolton, Ms McDUff, Mr Kennedy, Mr Maker

Pictures from the day are included at the end of this article! 😀

Big thanks from all of us!

PREP News

What a fantastic term of learning it has been for our youngest PBC students. Here are some of our best bits!

Literacy and Numeracy Play

After working hard during our InitiaLit and Maths Trek teacher-led sessions, the preppies relish the opportunity to engage in a variety of student-led activities during our Literacy and Numeracy play sessions. Literacy Play (LP) directly supports language development, emotional regulation, and reasoning skills, which contribute to improved decoding, oral reading, fluency, reading comprehension, and writing conventions. The preppies frequently provide feedback on their favourite LP activities, with ‘making mini books,’ ‘paint and write,’ and ‘read the room’ consistently being popular choices. LP offers crucial opportunities for students to interact with and reinforce their previous learning, helping them build a strong literacy foundation.

Numeracy Play is also a big hit with the preppies. As one enthusiastic preppie noted last week, ‘You’re learning and you don’t even know it!’

Father’s Day Fun

It was wonderful to see the beaming smiles on everyone’s faces during our special afternoon tea with our Prep Dads. We enjoyed preparing and sharing a special song, making crowns and ties, along with exchanging gifts purchased from the PBC PIPs Father’s Day stall. Thank you again to everyone for making it such a memorable afternoon.

Library News

Hello Readers

Make sure you put a reminder in your phone/diary for our school fete on   Friday 11 October.  Miss Mac, Miss Brooke, Year 9 students and I will be running a secondhand book stall.   We have 100’s of books!  Junior, teen and adult fiction.

Come along and get yourself a bargain 😀

Happy holidays to you all.  No matter how busy your holiday is, try and make some time each day for reading together.  This family time will send the message to your child that reading is important to you and should be important to them as well.   If your kids are getting older you could read together as a family, gather everyone around and take turns reading aloud.  What a great way to make memories, and instill a love of reading in your children at the same time.  I hope you have fun with your holiday reading.  The more fun you have the more likely kids will want to keep doing it.

Yours in reading every day

Miss Tania
