Anzac Commemorations

On Wednesday afternoon, students and staff came together to commemorate ANZAC Day. Mr. Wareing did a fantastic job of organising a respectful presentation that was supported by readings from both staff and students. Class groups worked together to lay wreaths and the messages of commitment, mateship and teamwork were not lost on the student body.

Thursday saw an early start for a few of our students and Mrs. Hemmings who represented PBC at the Coolum-Peregian RSL Dawn Service. Thank you to the following students who represented the college for the march: Gisele S, Mitch G, Archie G, Mya A, Freddie W, Jaxon C, Frankie G, Skye A, Finley C, Fred L and Poppy G. With a great deal of pride and purpose, students marched with many other local schools in a demonstration of thanks to those who fought for our freedoms. College leaders, Gisele and Mitch respectfully lay a wreath at the cenotaph on behalf of the College.

Term 2 Staffing

Mr. Alec Wareing has taken on the position of Interim College Coordinator after Mrs. Ashleigh Morrison resigned during the holidays. Mr. Wareing is an experienced PBC staff member with an excellent understanding of senior schooling and QCAA compliance and requirements. Interviews for a permanent replacement for the College Coordinator will take place this term.

Considering Mr. Wareing’s new role, we welcome Mr. Andrew van Meurs to the HPE department. Mr. van Meurs has previously worked at the college in a relief teaching capacity and has already developed a strong rapport with the students.

Mrs. Peta Golding has taken maternity leave for the remainder of the year. We wish Peta and Daniel the very best as they await the arrival of a sibling for Noah. Mrs. Romy Papo, an experienced junior primary school teacher, has been employed to cover Peta’s Y1 class. Romy will be in the room 5-days a week and as such, Mrs. Emma Bourne will also be utilised in other spaces.

X Country

Last Wednesday, our college came together to participate in our X Country event. It was fantastic to see the grounds in pristine condition and have a high level of participants supported by family and school mates. A special thanks to the PE department and groundsmen for preparing a fun and successful event.

Secondary Subject Selection Information Night

The college will hold an information session for those students entering Y9-12 in 2025. Whilst more information will be coming via email and our socials, please diarise Tuesday 28 May for this important afternoon. Aside from teachers making themselves available to discuss their areas of expertise, external agencies will also present to the audience. SET planning meetings for 2025 Y11 students will take place the following week.

College Coordinator

ALEC WAREING

As we step into a new term, I am thrilled to extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you. For those who may be unaware, I am honoured to serve as your Interim College Coordinator for Term 2. With a passion for education and a commitment to supporting your child’s academic journey, I am excited to work alongside you in the coming weeks and months.

Students, Term 2 brings with it a sense of renewal and opportunity. It’s a time for growth, exploration, and the pursuit of knowledge. Whether you’re returning from a well-deserved break or embarking on your first term with us, I encourage you to approach this term with an open mind and a willingness to challenge yourself.

At our college, inclusivity is more than just a word—it’s a guiding principle that shapes everything we do. It’s about creating a community where every voice is heard, every perspective is valued, and every individual feels seen and respected. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging for all members of our college family, regardless of background, identity, or experience.

In Term 2, we are proud to embrace inclusivity as our theme, reaffirming our commitment to creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported. Throughout the term, we will be exploring what inclusivity means to us as individuals and as a community, and how we can work together to build a more inclusive college environment.

Grow Your Mind – Focus on Focusing

One of our focus areas for the Grow Your Mind program is all about….focus! So, what does a famous musician, a sports star and a tight rope walker all have in common? They have a strong reticular activating system (RAS). Grow Your Mind calls this part of the brain the Sifting Sooty – named after the real Sooty Shearwater who has the most incredible focus in the animal kingdom. Flying up to 500km a day, you would want to have a strong RAS!

Wellbeing tip:

Really cannot focus, but want to?

Name one thing you can taste, smell, hear, see and touch. This will bring you back into the present moment and allow you to regain your focus. The more we notice when we are not focussed, the stronger this will become in our brain (much like building a muscle at the gym!)

School of the Year Entry

Let’s get voting to win $10,000 for our beautiful school.  If we win, funds will to towards more shade options.
