Principal’s Report

WAYNE KENNEDY

Welcome to the first addition of the Emu Chronicle for Term 2.

Many memorable events have taken place within the initial weeks, with the Easter break now seemingly a vague shadow in our fast-paced schedule of educational undertakings.

On the Professional Development day (19th April) staff warmly welcomed Grace Stevenson (Year 7-10 Digital Technology & Year 11/12 ICT), Rosanne Thomas (Year 7 & 11/12 English) and Tim Roberts (Year 10 & 11/12 Mathematics) into our Teaching Team.

For parents that want to introduce themselves to our new members of staff, there will be opportunity at the Parent/Teacher interviews being conducted on Tuesday 4th May – from 3:10 – 6:00pm for Middle & Senior students, and 3:15 – 6:00pm for Primary students.

Alita Carpenter (Enrichment Coordinator P-12/ Junior School Coordinator), Shane Dupuy (Middle School Coordinator/ 7-9 Mathematics teacher), Gary Freudigmann (HPE Teacher, Senior School & Sporting Academy Coordinator) and I will also be available within the Kelly library to discuss any parent concerns.

The Administration team have forwarded all families the PC Schools link for Parent/Teacher interview appointments, however, please be mindful that arrangements can always be made for a time convenient to all parties to meet with both teaching and administration personnel.

Cross Country

The first day back for students was Tuesday 20th April, with considerable enthusiasm, energy and engagement generated by students as their teachers commenced new academic tasks and conveyed information on upcoming excursions.

Student energies were tested the following day as the 2021 Cross Country took place on a picture-perfect autumn day on the College oval.

Our HPE Department: Mr Wareing, Mr Freudigmann and Heath Cahalan did a wonderful job in planning and smoothly running the event. I was extremely pleased with the level of student participation – across all years. Our HPE teachers have developed a very positive culture for students to set and achieve personal physical activity goals.

Thank you to all the parents that took time out of their busy schedules to cheer on our young athletes – there were many memorable moments experienced.

Induction and Anzac Commemorative Assembly

At the conclusion of the Cross Country the Middle & Senior School held the Student Leadership Induction and ANZAC Commemorative Assembly (Period 5), followed by the Junior School SRC Induction and ANZAC Commemorative Assembly (Period 6).

Thank you to those family members that supported the Leadership team with the SRC badge pinning presentation.

Thank you also to Jack G for a quality College Captain Address. Jack will be chairing the first Student Representative Council meeting on Friday 7th May at 12:30pm within the Kelly library (Jack has emailed SRC members with details).

PIPS (Our P&F)

I would also like to thank those parents that attended the Parents & Friends on Wednesday 27th April.

A special thank you to Madeline Beattie and Angie Stinton for the organisation of the Mother’s Day stall. Students will have the opportunity to purchase a special gift for a special mum on Thursday 6th May within their class groups (Middle & Senior School during morning tea/lunch).

A major upcoming fundraiser for our P&F is the Bunnings BBQ scheduled for 22nd May. The P & F members require the support of our parent body to help with this initiative – please see administration for further information.

Speed Restrictions

Can I please encourage all to adhere to the 40 km/h speed limit on Old Emu Mountain Road and very importantly the 10 km/h speed restrictions imposed within the drop zone and car park.

With our increased student numbers, we have considerably more young students accessing these areas and more families in a hurry to meet daily schedules – please slow down and be extremely vigilant to keep student safety a priority.

Scholastic Book Orders

Scholastic Book Club Issue 3 for Kindy to Year 6 is now open for orders.

Parents please order online at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or download the LOOP app (orders cannot be paid through PBC office). If your child has not received a catalogue, please view the online version.

Your order will be electronically linked to the rest of our school’s order. You do not need to complete the order form.

Volunteers Needed!

We are looking for volunteers to help with our major fundraiser on 22 May.

The Bunnings BBQ fundraisers provide a fabulous opportunity to raise funds for our school. However, it does take a group effort!

If you have availability leading up to the day or on the day to assist, please reach out to the admin team in the school office.

Historically we have had 2hr shifts throughout the day with an average of 4 people per shift.

Many hands make light work. And, it’s a great way to meat (see what we did there) other parents within the school community.
