Principal’s Report

WAYNE KENNEDY

It is my pleasure to announce to our educational community that the new Peregian Beach College Principal for 2023, will be Mr Shane Dupuy. Mr Dupuy is a long serving member of the Peregian Beach Teaching Team, having taught at the College for seventeen years; working in the Junior and Middle School (Middle School Coordinator). Mr Dupuy is well respected by his teaching peers and the student body. He has a wealth of knowledge across P-12 Australian curriculum, the Peregian Pedagogies Framework, Mind & Movement initiatives, Sporting Academy programs, and a close working relationship with the College Board as established within his Leadership Team role. I anticipate an extremely smooth transition, with Mr Dupuy eager to take our current educational programs to new heights and to implement innovative new programs in the new year. I congratulate Mr Dupuy on his appointment and look forward to his leadership in 2023.

This last newsletter of the year comes with genuine thanks and gratitude to all who have contributed to this year at the College being such a success. In recent weeks we have held the Junior School Celebration of Learning & Award Ceremony for Prep -Year 4 students and the Middle School (Year 5-9) Award Ceremony. Both ceremonies were well attended by college families. I must commend Mrs Carpenter, Mr Dupuy and the Administration team for the quality preparations implemented to ensure that these events were memorably PBC. The video segments in both ceremonies conveyed accurately the 21st century skills being implemented within the Minds initiative, the physical engagement of the student body within the Movement and Sporting Academy programs, and how the Peregian Pedagogies and quality teaching are enhancing academic achievement throughout the College. The volume of academic awards presented exceeded all previous years, with sporting accolades including being crowned the SEQ primary school football champions for a 2nd year running, winning the Open Boys Sunshine Coast Schools Football Championship and for the first time being awarded the high schools Per Capita Trophy for North District Track and Field. As Mr Wareing (Sports Coordinator) has conveyed, while it is important to celebrate such successes, having the largest ever participation rates in sporting trials, entering more PBC school teams than ever before and having attendance rates in school sporting carnivals exceeding all preceding data is true testament to the advancements of College.

End of Year Celebrations

On Friday 2nd December the Junior and Middle School celebrated their student friendships. The Junior School had their ‘End of Year student fun day’ which saw Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 being involved in a Giant Movie session, and the Years 3 & 4 having a pool party and sausage sizzle.  The Year 5-9 students, and the Secondary Teaching Team depleted their energy reserves at the Coolum Aqua Fun Park celebrations. These scheduled events were a fun and fitting end to the 2022 academic year.

Transition Days

On Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th December all classes throughout the College were involved in 2023 transition activities. The transitional activities provided students with the opportunity to meet their 2023 teachers, be provided with insight and awareness of 2023 academic objectives, content, and resources. The two transition days proved valuable for the Teaching Team and the students as it dispersed some of the anxiety associated with ‘the next step.’

Signing Off

I would like to conclude my last Principal’s Report by stating how immensely proud and honoured I am to have been the Peregian Beach College Principal for the last five years. The external elements, of bushfire, flood and pandemic have not been kind to the role, however the internal comradery of the Teaching and Leadership Team, and the trust, confidence and positivity consistently conveyed by parents and students has been its own reward. As an educational community we will continue to prosper, with continued academic advancement and student growth strategically placed for the foreseeable future. I want to take the opportunity to wish my dear students, staff, and parents a relaxing holiday break and a very Merry Christmas.
