KINDY – YEAR 12
Music
MUSIC
Biennial Musical
Every student from Kindy – Year 12 has the opportunity to participate and shine in our biennial School Musical and other co-curricular activities. Through their experiences in the musical, students also learn the values of teamwork, dedication and empathy, developing both interpersonal and intrapersonal skills.
Peregian Beach College has presented The Wizard of Oz, The Sound of Music, Back to the 80s, A Night at The Video Store, Hercules, Alice in Wonderland Junior & a PBC Original “What’s Next?”.
Music Lessons
Music lessons are scheduled in the regular timetable for students from Prep – Year 12. Once students reach Year 9 and beyond Music is an elective subject. Throughout the course of study students are introduced to the fundamentals of music right through to composition and instrumentation.
Instrumental Music
The instrumental program is extensive and conducted by a team of skilled and experienced staff. At present we offer voice and stage craft, strings, piano, flute, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar and drums to students from Year P-12. The main goals of the music program are for students to develop sound musical skills and through their engagement in music, develop a life-long appreciation of music.

Visual Art
VISUAL ART
At Peregian Beach College Visual Art is offered from Prep to Year 12.
Junior School Visual Art
(Prep-4)
In Prep to Year 4, students explore art over a 50-minute lesson each week. Prep to Year 2 students are engaged through purposeful and creative play in structured activities, fostering a strong sense of wellbeing and developing their connection with and contribution to the world. In Years 3 and 4, learning in Visual Art builds on the experience of the previous levels. It involves students making and responding to artworks independently and collaboratively with their classmates and teachers.
Middle School Visual Art
(5-8)
Middle School art involves one 50-minute lesson a week. Students draw on artworks from a range of cultures, times and locations. Students plan their art making in response to exploration of techniques and processes used in their own and others’ artworks. They demonstrate use of visual conventions, techniques and processes to communicate meaning in their artworks.
Senior School Visual Art
(9-12)
Students may choose to study Visual Art over the course of Years 9 and 10 and again for Years 11 and 12. This involves three to four 50-minute classroom lessons per week. Students in Years 9 and 10 are required to submit documentation showing the development of their ideas, the completed portfolio and research tasks. The Senior Visual Art course encourages students to make, appraise and display artworks with confidence and individuality. The course promotes critical, cultural and aesthetic understandings through participation in the processes of the Visual Art experience. Students will be actively involved in researching, developing, resolving and reflecting ideas through a variety of Visual Art forms.
PREP – YEAR 12
Health & Physical Education
HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Health and Physical Education provides students with an experiential curriculum that is contemporary, relevant, challenging and physically active. Movement is a powerful medium for learning, through which students can practise and refine personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills.
The Health and Physical Education curriculum supports students to develop knowledge understanding and skills to enhance their own and others’ health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity participation. Students develop skills to manage their emotions and understand the physical and social changes that are occurring for them. The content provides opportunities for students to contribute to building a positive school environment that supports healthy, safe and active choices for everyone. Students also explore a range of factors and behaviours that can influence health, safety and wellbeing.
Health and Physical Education is a mandatory subject for Prep – Year 10, students can continue their studies in Senior Physical Education as an elective subject.
Carnivals and Events
All students at the College are encouraged to participate in our Track and Field Carnival, Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals. Successful athletes then participate in District/Regional events. In addition, we also have inter-school competitions (generally for students in Middle School and Senior).
YEAR 7 – YEAR 12
Business
BUSINESS
Business provides opportunities for students to develop business knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to society, the workforce and the marketplace and prepares them as potential employees, employers, leaders, managers and entrepreneurs.
Students engage with the dynamic business world (in both national and global contexts), the changing workforce and emerging digital technologies.
Students investigate the business life cycle, develop skills in examining business data and information and learn business concepts, theories, processes and strategies relevant to leadership, management and entrepreneurship. They investigate the influence of, and implications for, strategic development in the functional areas of finance, human resources, marketing and operations.
Pathways
All employees work within a business context, whether it is a corporate, government or not-for-profit organisation. Studying business provides students with the background knowledge to become a team-member who contributes positively to a workplace. .A course of study in Business can also establish a basis for further education and employment in the fields of business management, business development, entrepreneurship, business analytics, economics, business law, accounting and finance, international business, marketing, human resources management and business information systems.
YEAR 5 – YEAR 10
Food Technology
FOOD TECHNOLOGY
Food Technology is offered to students from Years 5 through Year 12. Food Technology provides students with a broad range of skills and knowledge that encourages students to explore the importance of food in ensuring the wellbeing of all Australians. These knowledge and skills include food properties, preparation, processing, consumption patterns and nutritional considerations.
Middle School
Year 5 & 6 students experience topics that include food and health, nutrition, hygiene and safety. Students learn about food in a variety of settings, enabling them to evaluate the relationships between food, technology, nutritional status and the quality of life. They learn to select and use appropriate ingredients, methods and equipment safely and competently.
Year 7 & 8 students delve more deeply into aspects of Food Technology, exploring the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and the Australian Dietary Guidelines, healthy food options, collaborating in decision making and learning food production skills to enable their own wellbeing. Students explore food-related issues through a range of practical experiences, allowing them to make informed, appropriate choices with regard to food.
Senior School
Year 9 & 10 students can elect to take this subject and have a much greater opportunity to drive their own learning. The subject encompasses an inquiry-based approach to learning to investigate issues and design challenges that are related to wellbeing. These skills and knowledge are reinforced through practical tasks where students can demonstrate their reasoning skills through thinking critically and creatively by analysing, synthesising, justifying and evaluating a specific issues or design challenge. The topics are usually over-arched by a learning focus such as Special Dietary Needs, Food Equity, Local and Organic, Indigenous Foods, Famous Chefs or Sustainability to name a few. Cooking focus is on collaboration and student organisation. Students critically evaluate their own work and their peers. Individual design projects provide students with opportunities to develop their project management skills.
During final years, students will begin the Australian Curriculum subject of Food & Nutrition. The subject delves deeply into the function and principles of nutrition, analysis of current global food problems and provides opportunity for student generated solutions. The topics focused on consider the overarching concepts of waste management, sustainability and food protection.
YEAR 11 – YEAR 12
Legal Studies
LEGAL STUDIES
Legal Studies focuses on the interaction between society and the discipline of law and explores the role and development of law in response to current issues. Students study the legal system and how it regulates activities and aims to protect the rights of individuals, while balancing these with obligations and responsibilities. Students study the foundations of law, the criminal justice process and the civil justice system. They critically examine issues of governance, explore contemporary issues of law reform and change, and consider Australian and international human rights issues.
Students develop skills of inquiry, critical thinking, problem-solving and reasoning to make informed and ethical decisions and recommendations. They identify and describe legal issues, explore information and data, analyse, evaluate to make decisions or propose recommendations, and create responses that convey legal meaning. They question, explore and discuss tensions between changing social values, justice and equitable outcomes.
Pathways
A course of study in Legal Studies can establish a basis for further education and employment in the fields of law, law enforcement, criminology, justice studies and politics. The knowledge, skills and attitudes students gain are transferable to all discipline areas and post-schooling tertiary pathways. The research and analytical skills this course develops are universally valued in business, health, science and engineering industries.

LOTE (Languages Other Than English)
Italian
Italian is offered to students from Prep to Year 8. It is the official language of Italy, the Vatican City, San Marino and parts of Switzerland. It is also a major community language of Australia, the USA, Canada, Brazil and other countries. Italian belongs to the Romance family of languages and is closely connected to its sibling languages of Spanish, Portuguese and French. Many Italian words can be instantly recognised due to their similarities with English.
As Italian is widely spoken in communities in Australia, many opportunities exist to hear and use the language in real-life situations as well as through the Italian media in Australia.
